Rhetoric and Cadence

The study of rhetoric and cadence is increasingly attracting my interest. My occupation requires me to do many things including writing to an audience of 2,800 people and at times speaking to audiences totaling 1000. So...rhetoric and cadence are in essence part of my job. There have been time when I have been criticized for my public speaking (mainly the cadence part) and there have been times when I have been complemented on my ability to put together well thought-out sentences (rhetoric). I am young when it comes to this area, but that just fuels my desire to learn how to captivate audiences and move them to a place they rarely visit.

Recently I have been watching the best drama ever filmed, The West Wing. Aaron Sorkin in my opinion is a master writer. The speeches President Bartlett delivers, especially during re-election in season 4 are nothing short of magical.

"We did not seek nor did we provoke an assault on our freedom, we did not expect nor did we invite a confrontation with evil." "Yet everytime we think we've met our capacity to meet a challendge, we look up and find that our capacity may well be limitless."

I'll get better I know...I just hope that I'll eventually move people to the place they rarely visit and when they get there I can say to myself "well done".

The glass is half-full

Why do weeks pass by with a blink. Having two kids, working, being married and maintaining a home makes life fly by. However, I have every cause for cheer. Two children that make me smile every time I see them, a wife that lifts me up and brings a smile to my face, a job that doesn't seem like work because of the passion I have, and a home that I worked hard for. The glass is half-full.

I could sit here and pontificate on this thought but Kate needs a bath and its late....peace out.

Tru-Green

We've been using tru-green lawn care this spring and summer. I was sceptical at first but look at the pictures! They've done a wonderful job! It's amazing what a sprinkler system and consistent lawn care can do.

Voice of Doom

Well, life is moving right along here at the Rose estate. We're in the middle of planning for Kate's birthday party at Peter Piper Pizza and are hoping that many of her friends from school and church come and have fun. Will is growing so fast and Kate is so obsessed with him I sometimes think she would rather be his mother than sister. Will's nickname at the moment is "thunder-thighs". He is so cute with his little fat thighs and fat rolls...we are so blessed! Also, Will is much more alert and he laughs and is more interactive with us which is awesome!

Kate is developing socially, emotionally, and physically with each day. It seems that every time I try to pick her up she gets heavier and heavier, which is good given that she's a petite girl. It's also great having little conversations with her. It's crazy how fast she picks up on things she sees from the television, books, and every other place she goes. For example, recently she's become infatuated with the Cosby Show...a good, clean show that she can watch without us worrying about language, violence etc. The other day, Kate came in and had been watching Cosby, specifically the episode where Cliff is bidding on a jazz record at an auction and leading up to the auction he tells Claire that he'll get the record because he will use the Huxtable "voice of doom". When he said "voice of doom" he uses a distorted, deep, growling voice...it makes Kate laugh every time.

Well, Kate came in and while I was getting ready for work, she said
"Daddy, where you going?"
I said "to work sweetie."
She said "you're going to work?"
 I said "yes."
She said "Daddy, are going to use the "voice of doom?"

What made me crack up laughing was the she said it in her own growling, distorted voice! What a treat she is to raise!

Well, that all there is to say for the The Roses at the moment...Abby is hollering at me to come and help make tacos so we can then make brownie sundaes...a special treat since we're not having group tonight.

Peace out.
